Last year, there was an outcry over a YA anthology that was prohibiting same-sex stories. There were a LOT of posts about it on the internet. There were a lot of authors who got up in arms and dropped out of not only that anthology, but an anthology being edited by the same editor, an anthology that I was writing for.
In the end, what ended up happening was that the...

I mean this is all semantics but say someone was born in 1965 they’d have kids when they were about 20 (‘85) those kids would be 27 now, not exactly new grads. And that’s the first year AFTER the boomer generation. The majority of people still had/have kids…
The boomers were known for having kids a lot older than 20.

Orly Taitz and the birthers sued to keep President Obama off the ballot in Georgia. The President neglected to send anyone to defend against the suit. The judge chided the President for that. Normally, this leads to a default judgement against the defendant, but the Birthers wanted a hearing on the merits of their case.
Big mistake: they should have quit while they were ahead.

Among the world’s democracies,” Professors Law and Versteeg concluded, “constitutional similarity to the United States has clearly gone into free fall. Over the 1960s and 1970s, democratic constitutions as a whole became more similar to the U.S. Constitution, only to reverse course in the 1980s…

It seems that if you show a NYC Cop a picture of a pistol, a wallet, a cell phone, and a nothing at all; and then ask which one’s the gun they’re gonna get all glassy eyed and drool before emptying their clip into you.

Last.fm tumblr thing
So, I think I figured out why the last.fm tumblr feed doesn’t always work for me.
I think I need to have listened to at least five different artists at least two times per artist, in song plays.
Knowing this, I am now trying to make sure I follow that pattern with my listening. As a result, I am not simply listening to the same song/album over and over. I am listening to at least five...

Stop Complaining about the Fucking Friendzone
I’m going to shape my language around the fact that the majority of people who are vast, gaping assholes about the friendzone are straight men.
Stop complaining about the friendzone. Either A) You’re actually a friend to these women, and care about them sincerely as friends. In which case, what the fuck do you have to complain about? “Boo hoo, woe is me, I have friends!”...

We create our own reality.
The world we live in is essentially our own. Memory being malleable helps this; as we choose our futures so we also choose our pasts.
Like the Joker, we all have multiple-choice pasts. Was the argument that ended your relationship with Alex about his bad habits or yours? Did the high school you went to make you happy? How long have you felt the way you do?
Factual questions, all, about factual...

We create worlds.
Worlds inside our heads when the outside world offers us nothing we want. If we’re willing to take it. We create worlds out of scraps and scattered remains of stories and ideas. Our own or someone else’s. We relive things we think went wrong, trying to get them right this time, like playing a video game and saving right before an unexpected plot-related tragedy.
I went mad once. Some...
You write a story
You write a story, people read it as an allegory. “If people were really” but people are really. I take everything literally, but sometimes that’s how things are meant to be taken.
I never should have come.
The air is cold in this place, that time of year again. The social mores specific to the site make desire mix with disgust, and burn more like a rash than a bonfire.
Or maybe it’s just the time of year that does that. The worst cannot-unsee may be the naked photos of a friend I used to crush on. Or several friends. No, I don’t mean you. It’s gotten cold again. I don’t like...

Lord of the Rings, The Two Towers
Frodo: I can't do this, Sam.
Sam: I know. It's all wrong. By rights we shouldn't even be here. But we are. It's like in the great stories, Mr. Frodo. The ones that really mattered. Full of darkness and danger, they were. And sometimes you didn't want to know the end. Because how could the end be happy? How could the world go back to the way it was when so much bad had happened? But in the end, it's only a passing thing, this shadow. Even darkness must pass. A new day will come. And when the sun shines it will shine out the clearer. Those were the stories that stayed with you. That meant something, even if you were too small to understand why. But I think, Mr. Frodo, I do understand. I know now. Folk in those stories had lots of chances of turning back, only they didn't. They kept going. Because they were holding on to something.
Frodo: What are we holding onto, Sam?
Sam: That there's some good in this world, Mr. Frodo... and it's worth fighting for.
