We create our own reality.
The world we live in is essentially our own. Memory being malleable helps this; as we choose our futures so we also choose our pasts.
Like the Joker, we all have multiple-choice pasts. Was the argument that ended your relationship with Alex about his bad habits or yours? Did the high school you went to make you happy? How long have you felt the way you do?
Factual questions, all, about factual things. And yet their answers aren’t facts; they’re memories. But that’s all about the past. What about the present?
We create our current existence as well. “Today, I am happy.” “I am trapped in this situation.” “My girlfriend is thinking of cheating on me” “I’m a regular customer.”
The line between fact and opinion isn’t a clear-cut one. If we have awareness of this process, we can actively choose what our answers are. And having the right questions helps too.
